Everton's first win at Old Trafford in the Premier League since 1992, which was a 3-0 drubbing. I remember the little known Robert Warzycha rushing through towards the half built Stretford End, and slotting it past Schmeichel. This time the little known Bryan Oviedo slotted past David De Gea- cue the blue flares, and the comments of "We can still win it". Yeah right. 12 points behind the leaders Arsenal with a faulty side incapable to magic, playing with no confidence and a manager who already seems bereft of ideas.
I hate to say it, but when Moyes was touted as the new manager when Fergie announced his retirement, my heart was in my mouth. He has won NO trophies, and has done, let's say a decent job, for Everton. How that was the perfect CV to become the United manager (the hottest seat in football), I've no idea. To be fair to Moyes he has been poorly backed by the board in the transfer market during the summer. This left the squad a little empty in the flair department- only really Rooney can create anything on a regular basis.
The perfect way to follow Fergie would have been to appoint a tried an tested name who had done it all for a club of a similar size- eg Ancelotti, or Hiddink, to give the club time to search for a worthy replacement. It is obvious United are trying to create another Fergie with Moyes. It won't work for two reasons. 1). Fergie was a freakishly good, once in a generation manager. 2). Football is a different game now where managers are hired and fired willy nilly if they don't perform. They needed an instant, hit the ground running, manager, like the aforementioned men. The ideal candidate for me would have been Mourinho. Yes, he would have got bored after 2-3 years, but we would have been winning things and he is the ideal character to place United on his shoulders.
Simply put, if United don't get a 4th place, he should be sacked. He was never the right man in the first place! Grrrrrrrr.
